OK, the steering on the Smith is “as heavy as hell”, I had the bright idea that I might be able to lighten it a little
I did not want to change anything on the car (as in, change mounts, brackets etc) so I though a better steering box ratio (over the 8:1 in it) might be an easy solution. First issue was identifying the box, easy right?
Well nothing is as easy as it seems – I thought it would be mid 40’s Ford like the rest of the running gear………
Well it took a FB post in one the car groups before someone could recognise it – turns out, its 1928 Dodge Brothers. So for now the hunt continues for one that I can play with (with a better ratio)
